The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West
African States (ECOWAS), sitting in Abuja, Nigeria, Thursday deferred u
dgment in the case of “disappeared’ Gambian journalist, Chief Ebrima
Manneh, a sub-regional media freedom body, Media Foundation for West
Africa (MFWA) revealed.
According to MFWA, "the adjournment is to enable the court summon two personnel of Gambia's National Intelligence Agency (NIA) who allegedly arrested Manneh 7 July, 2006 at the Daily Observer premises, to testify."

On 26 November, 2007, a witness told the court that he witnessed the arrest of t he journalist by the two officers.
The court also said it needed time to translate new evidence it had received fro m Manneh’s counsel into French language.
MFWA is asking the sub-regional court to compel the government of President Yahy a Jammeh to produce Manneh and to answer for his arrest and subsequent disappear a nce.
The Gambian government is said to have consistently refused to appear before the ECOWAS court.
Chief Manneh, a journalist with the pro-government Banjul-based Daily Observer n ewspaper, was last seen 26 July, 2007, at Gambia's Royal Victoria Teaching Hospi t al, the country’s largest hospital, in the custody of state security personnel, w hile he was hospitalized.
In June 2007, the MFWA brought a legal suit at the sub-regional court against th e government of President Jammeh over Manneh’s arrest and subsequent disappearan c
