On Thursday around 4.30 p.m. The grieving relatives have appealed to the commissioner to take necessary actions to bring back their loved ones. A group of 30 relatives of the disappeared persons have met with the visiting UN human Rights Commissioner Louise Arbour at the UN head quarters in Colombo with grief.

The relatives were carrying portraits of their missing loved ones during the event. The relatives have submitted a detailed appeal to the UN Commissioner to take necessary steps to bring back their loved ones. The meeting was arranged by the Civil Monitoring Committee convenor Mano Ganeshan.

The relatives explained to the commissioner the forces behind the abductions extrajudicial killings. They also stressed that the Sri Lankan government is turning a blind eye to all these atrocities. Speaking to media, the relatives out side the UN compound, revealed numerous heartbreaking stories of disappearances and abductions of their loved ones.

“Eyewitnesses say that our children have been abducted by Sri Lankan forces; but when we approach the army, they say that the CID has abducted them, how can we distinguish the CID and army personnel. Please help us bring our children back” a grieving relative told media.
