PROGRAM FOR THE AFAD SEMINAR IN SRI LANKA

September 1-8, 1999

1. OBJECTIVES The project aims to consolidate the member organizations of AFAD through inputs, workshops and discussions on the topics mentioned below. In the consolidation process, necessarily, the federation shall then be equipped with the strength to consolidate by reaching out to other organizations from other Asian countries and thus, be prepared for its major organizational endeavor - the first Regional Congress to be held in May 2000. The following are the specific target results of the project: 1. To enable the member organizations of AFAD to understand deeply the international phenomenon of involuntary disappearances and link the global situation to the particular situations of their respective countries; 2. To enable the member organizations of AFAD to undertand deeply the organizational situation of all the AFAD members, share and learn from each other's experiences. 3. To be able to respond to particular needs of distinct member organizations of AFAD and common needs of all AFAD members. 4. To be able to formulate an initial strategic plan - 2000-2003, which shall serve as a draft to be ratified by the First Regional Congress. 5. To prepare for the visit of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances to Sri Lanka. ll.
